The Hotels and Restaurants Guide of Italy 2014 by the Italian Touring Club, available in bookstores today, offers a pleasant surprise for the Monregalese area.
Duchessa Margherita, a historic residence in Vicoforte, has been awarded the Special Italian Rooms Prize for Northwest Italy.
Only four establishments each year can boast the prestigious recognition awarded by the guide’s curator, Teresa Cremona, divided among Northwest, Northeast, Central, and Southern Italy.
The guide’s review:
A residence in Art Nouveau style retaining the elegance of a private home and the charm of a period villa. Few rooms with antique furniture in Piedmontese or Provençal style; in each of them, as well as in other areas, mirrors and ornaments, prints, silverware, and crystals that shine without redundancy, adding warmth to every corner.
Duchessa Margherita was opened in 2011, after a meticulous restoration carried out in detail by architect Elena Accamo, using high-quality materials and preserving valuable structures such as the 1850 internal staircase by Verzino from Frabosa, with marble extracted from the same quarry as the Chapel of the Holy Shroud in Turin.
It is chosen by Italian and foreign tourists to discover the artistic and gastronomic treasures of the Monregalese and Cuneese areas, and has hosted Duke Amedeo of Savoy and Princess Silvia on the occasion of the conference on Umberto II held in Vicoforte in March 2013.
